This committee is concerned with state and federal policies, including legislative proposals, regulations and administrative rulings on environmental as well as occupational health and safety matters. Technical expertise is provided by our world-class scientific and legal counsel. This committee has three working subcommittees: Air Regulation, Water/Waste Regulation and Safety Regulation.

Government Affairs Council

The Government Affairs Council is made up of VMA members as well as lobbyists representing member companies advocating for pro-manufacturing public policies to local, state and federal elected officials. The GAC works to accomplish the legislative and regulatory agenda of the other VMA committees and the association.

WiM-Virginia is dedicated to supporting, promoting and inspiring women who are pursuing or have chosen a career in the manufacturing industry. Our Leadership Council is made up of representatives from VMA member companies. We are the Virginia state affiliate of Women in Manufacturing®.

This committee is concerned with state, local and federal tax policies and programs, including legislative proposals and administrative rulings on subjects of taxation directly applicable to manufacturers. It reviews proposed changes and makes position recommendations.

The Air Regulation Subcommittee tracks key issues and, as necessary, actively advocates VMA’s positions through legal fillings on regulations and rules with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Courts.

The Safety Subcommittee provides its members with the means to improve safety performance through programs, training, service and “best practices” professional development as well as government affairs services pertaining to the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.

The Retired Manufacturers Council promotes the general well-being of industrial organizations in Virginia by advocating for pro-manufacturing public policies to local, state and federal elected officials.

The Commerce Committee is focused on creating supply-chain opportunities and removing barriers for Virginia manufacturers and their suppliers, to increase domestic business opportunities, expand international trade and share best practices.

Transportation

This committee reviews major legislative and administrative proposals related to freight-based transportation systems, services, rates, and taxes, and makes position recommendations. It assists in the preparation of statement on freight-based transportation proposals under consideration by state and federal legislative bodies and administrative agencies.
